Years later in 2006, with a new name, which he picked up from a very funny incident, Wizkid got into the studio to record again; this time with HMan (OJB’s younger brother) and Ugly on a song titled ‘Naija Boy’, produced by OJB Jezreel. From that time, he continued to hone his singing skills with influences from OJB Jezreel, Ruffman, Naeto C, Ikechukwu and many others. By 2008, he had developed a unique reggae style and had worked with some of the finest artistes in Nigeria such as Sound Sultan, Ruffman, Nyore, Durella, Kel, TBase etc.
The 19 year old’s collaboration with M.I on “Fast Money, Fast Cars” on the Talk About It album, drew a lot of attention to his distinct voice and singing style. He also voiced the seasonal Barcelos radio jingle which was released in December 2008.
In 2009, Wizkid got signed to Banky W’s label, Empire Mates Entertainment and has since then go on to perform and record with Banky W, who is one of Nigeria’s most sought artistes. Wizkid has collaborated with other artistes such as Kel, Dipp, Eva and Teeto, to name a few.
In 2010, Wizkid, fully broke into the music industry with the release of his smash hit singles; “Don’t dull”, “Holla at your boy”, and “Tease me”. Ayo Balogun’s debut album- “Super star” was released in 2011 and in June 2011, he performed several sold-out concerts in Nigeria, UK, and the United States.
Work on Wizkid’s second studio album, Ayo, began in 2012 and continued through 2014. It features guest appearances from Femi Kuti, Banky W., Seyi Shay, Phyno, Tyga, Akon and Wale. The album’s production was handled by Sarz, Shizzi, Uhuru, Del B, Dokta Frabz, Maleek Berry, Legendury Beatz and Spellz. It was initially titled Chosen. In addition, he gave an estimated time-frame for the album’s release.
On 2 May 2013, Wizkid released the album’s lead single, “Jaiye Jaiye”, featuring Femi Kuti. Wizkid told Showtime Celebrity that he collaborated with Femi Kuti in order to prevent people from depicting him as an artist whose lyrics revolve around girls, cars and materialistic things. “On Top Your Matter” was released as the album’s second single on 26 October 2013; it was produced by Del’B. The music video for the single, released on 13 February 2014, was shot and directed in South Africa by Sesan. In July 2014, Wizkid visited The Beat 99.9 FM studio in Lagos and told Toolz that he collaborated with Barbadian singer Rihanna.
On 5 January 2015, Wizkid released the music video for “Ojuelegba”, a song that highlights the struggles he endured in the early years of his recording career. The official remix to the song features vocals from Drake and Skepta; it premiered on OVO Sound Radio in July 2015. Wizkid first announced that he was working on a new album during his visit to London in October 2014. He revealed his collaborative single with Chris Brown titled “African Bad Girl”, and said that it would be the lead single off the upcoming album. In April 2015, both Wizkid and Chris Brown performed the song together at the latter’s concert in Durban, South Africa. In May 2015, Wizkid released “Expensive Shit”, an Afrobeat song built on light guitars, saxophone lines and acoustic percussion; the song was reported as being a likely inclusion on the album. In July 2015, Wizkid announced via Twitter that Angélique Kidjo will be featured on the album. In September 2015, Wizkid revealed that he was dropping his EP and postponing the release of his third studio album. It made me realize how much work I need to do.”

Nigerians react to MURIC’s call on Buhari to stop BBNaij

Entertainment

The Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, has come under attack over its call on President Muhammadu Buhari to stop the airing of Big Brother Naija reality TV show.
MURIC had, in a statement sent to DAILY POST, attacked the government of President Muhammadu Buhari for allowing the BBNaija show to go on.
The Islamic group labelled the show being aired on national television as immoral, dangerous and Bohemian.
However, Nigerians on social media have opposed MURIC’s call for the banning of the reality show, arguing that the show is rated 18.
Here are some reactions gathered by DAILY POST from Twitter:
@4eyedmonk “MURIC needs to know the difference between free-to-air TV and subscription based TV. DSTV where Big Brother is airing is a subscription based TV where you go to pay to consume content, because you want to not because you don’t have other options.”
@Zaddy_Nomso “#BBNaija is a paid TV station, if you don’t like it watch Nat Geo Wild. Some of our Moral leaders are assaulting Women and getting protected. MURIC where is this energy when there is suffering and killing in the land?
@Teefhay “As a muslim sef I’m sorry to say this but the leader of this MURIC is a fool.”
@Balogun3103 “MURIC sends petition letter to Buhari to cancel #BBNaija2019 with immediate effect. Nigeria is not Saudi Arabia.”
@Buzuzu7 “Dear MURIC more Nigerians die from hunger and depression and many more have no access to tv talk more of cable tv. Direct this energy at pressuring this government to make good policies that will have positive impact on the people.BBNaija2019 is the least of our problems.”
@UniqueItohan “So they are seeing tv reality show but blind to the havocs Fulani herdsmen are committing? You are telling me killing people in their own community, land or house is normal and can be over looked.”
@DamyAdeyemi “Although I’m not a fan of #BBNaija2019, but asking govt to ban it is just laughable.”
@Fikkypearl “MURIC I’ve not seen you guys cry out against Muslim clerics that rape girls, yet it’s BBNaija that’s your headache. You think Nigeria belongs to you, the show is rated 18 and let me remind you there’s parental control on DSTV. Stop making noise Falz is still waiting for you in court.”
@Ashawolord1 “Plsss tell ur MURIC to channel their energy on giving u better advice. We Nigerians are not complaining about #BBNaija at least that’s giving us much more pleasure than reading or watching ur Fulani herdsmen.”
@Ayurmeday “To start with, are we in a Muslim Country? Secondly, will stopping the reality show solve the country’s problems?
@Delaniyi “Must you watch it, BBNaija is rated 18.There are lot of porn site out there. If you dont go there, you wont see it.You and your kids should stop watching it if you think its immoral.”

The group, ” Called on Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria to officially educate and informed all ignorant Cattleman Breeders and herdsmen of the urgent development within one week starting from today being Friday 12th July 2019, and from 20th July any person caught transgressing against the law will taste the wrath of Igbo Youths. We wish to inform Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, failure to adhere to this warning will bear the consequences of any decisive action taken on this matter.”
Stating that it “will not be able to guarantee the safety of any herdsmen moving around the bushes and farmland across the South East from 20th July 2019,” OYC also advised Igbo Youth leaders in “95 lgas in the South East not to take laws into their hands but co-operate with security agents to ensure that law and order are maintain.”

We laud the South East Governors position on the Ruga settlement program and National livestock Transformation Programme which was out-rightly rejected and advice IPOB to stop crying foul over nothing, as Governors Ikpeazu and Ugwuanyi is not involved from any shabby deals with Fulani herdsmen.
“Our independent investigation after interviews with Traditional Rulers, Town Union leaders and Community based groups, confirmed that the two Governors are not Igbo saboteurs as alleged by IPOB. It’s on record that Governor Ikpeazu of Abia was the first Southern Governor in Nigeria to outrightly reject Ruga settlement at Phone-in program of Radio Nigeria (FRCN) Abuja 22nd June 2019, Isiguzoro said.
OYC also promised to facilitate a meeting with the leadership of the Coalition of Northern groups “by early August to ensure that there’s peace in the North.”
